Nestled in the historic, picture-perfect village of Frôlois, La Guimbarde offers a quintessential Burgundy getaway where timeless rural charm seamlessly meets modern comfort. Once the village bakery, this beautifully transformed cottage now serves as an inviting sanctuary for up to four adults seeking rest, relaxation, and an authentic taste of French country living. From the moment you arrive to crisp, fresh white linens on new mattresses, every detail has been thoughtfully designed for total comfort. Sleeping options include a spacious master suite with a king-size double bed (160 cm x 200 cm) and a peaceful twin room (two 90 cm x 200 cm beds), each boasting its own stylish en-suite shower room complete with oversized walk-in showers, soft towels, and complimentary artisan soaps. What truly elevates the top-floor sleeping quarters, however, are the expansive picture windows framing unobstructed, elevated views across the rustic terracotta rooftops of Frôlois to the rolling, sunlit valley beyond—providing an unspoiled, serene backdrop for quiet morning coffee or peaceful afternoon reading. Beyond its tranquil bedrooms, La Guimbarde excels in creating an effortless home-away-from-home experience for couples, small groups, and families alike. The ground floor opens into satisfying, light-filled living spaces designed for slow living and memorable meals with loved ones. A fully equipped, kitchen—paired with an old-fashioned walk-in pantry to keep food prep clutter-free—opens via a charming balcony directly onto the garden terrace. After a day spent exploring Burgundy’s renowned vineyards and historical sites, guests can unwind in the warm, sunny lounge featuring inviting soft seating, a cozy log-burning stove indoors for cooler evenings, and full entertainment options including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and UK free-to-air channels. Step through the glass lounge doors onto the veranda and down into a private, enclosed south-facing garden. Here, long summer days are best spent relaxing on sun loungers, grilling local produce on the gas barbecue, or enjoying delivered morning baguettes and pastries from the local baker. With comprehensive baby equipment, flexible pet-friendly policies, and optional private catering services—including tailored menus and regional cheese and meat recommendations—La Guimbarde delivers a relaxed, deeply authentic, and completely stress-free Burgundy retreat.

Our Eco-Friendly Philosophy at La Guimbarde At La Guimbarde, sustainability isn't an afterthought or a modern buzzword—it is woven directly into the fabric, story, and daily running of our home. When we set out to restore this historic former village bakery, our guiding principle was simple: honor the building's heritage by taking our time, respecting the surrounding environment, and making conscious choices that reduce our overall environmental footprint. Rather than rushing through a quick, high-waste makeover, we chose a slow, intentional approach to restoration that prioritizes longevity, mindfulness, and timeless craftsmanship. Reclaiming, Reusing, and Reimagining The greenest building materials are often the ones that already exist. Throughout the renovation process, we carefully preserved the character of the original structure by reusing materials found within the house and redesigning them for modern, functional life. Traditional stone, original wooden beams, and rustic features were restored rather than replaced. Wherever new elements were required, we prioritized recycled and upcycled materials, sourcing items locally to give forgotten pieces a beautiful second life. This slow design methodology not only minimizes industrial waste and transport emissions, but also gives the cottage its distinct visual warmth, soulful atmosphere, and authentic sense of place. Sustainable Daily Living in Frôlois Our commitment to the environment extends seamlessly into everyday stay for our guests. The commune of Frôlois benefits from a forward-thinking, modern waste management and recycling infrastructure, making low-impact living effortless during your holiday. Household Recycling: We provide dedicated in-house sorting bins that align with the village’s convenient weekly packaging and paper collection. Glass Recycling: Local glass bottle collection points throughout the village ensure all wine and beverage containers are properly recycled. Continuous Improvement & Future Carbon Goals Sustainability is a continuous journey. While we have already introduced energy-efficient appliances, water-saving fixtures, and eco-friendly cleaning products throughout the property, we are actively planning our next phase of green upgrades.
